Welcome to Church Mouse Piano Academy! Here I focus on musical instruction in piano, with the end goal being church ministry.

I am a pastor's wife, homeschooling mom of 8, and a church pianist. I started my musical instruction on the piano at age 7, with a focus on classical training. I also took flute and vocal lessons. When I was thrown into the role of "church pianist" at age 16, I realized that it was a completely different style than that of classical.
Teaching children hymn playing and accompaniment is a dying art, and my goal is to raise up a new generation of church pianists! I focus on note reading, timing, articulation, improvising, and accompanying a song leader or musician.

Mrs. McMurtry was my piano teacher from later elementary through high school. Out of everything she taught me, the thing that stood out the most was hymn playing. After we finished my method books, the main focus was playing music for church. We covered everything from preludes, to hymns, to specials for the offering and invitationals. Thanks to Mrs. McMurtry's teaching and despite my timid self, I felt confident enough to play through an entire church service. Mrs. McMurtry kept the lessons fun and enjoyable. Although she was also my youth pastor's wife, I feel like I grew close to her due to my piano lessons and our love for music. I would highly recommend Mrs. McMurtry for piano lessons, especially if you're interested in improving your piano playing for church services
